COLORADO SPRINGS — On Monday, August 5th, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin work on ramp metering installations on various on-ramps along I-25 in Colorado Springs.

CDOT said crews will be installing ramp-metering devices at 12 different locations along the I-25 corridor in Colorado Springs. The project will help ease traffic flow, according to the department.

The project is part of CDOT's "Whole System. Whole Safety." initiative, which is aimed at enhancing safety for Colorado traveling public. The addition of the ramp metering devices will make the road safer by improving traffic flow and safety by providing more gaps in merging traffic. They will also provide automated monitoring, will be triggered by I-25 average running speed, and will use technology to monitor the queue and control the flow of traffic, according to CDOT.

This will be the first installation of ramp meters south of Denver.

According to CDOT, work for this project will be performed Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Drivers can expect shoulder closures on the on-ramps, as well as the occasional night-time lane closure, which would be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

CDOT said they expect work to be done on two ramps simultaneously. Work will begin on the southernmost, east side ramp and work north. It will then cross over to the west side of I-25 and work south. Ramp metering will be operational on each ramp as the work is completed.

Work is expected to be completed by early summer 2020, barring weather and or shipment delays, CDOT said.

Ramp metering work will be done at the following locations:
