COLORADO SPRINGS — Part of southbound Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs is closed after a carjacking and police chase that ended in a major crash near Airport Rd.

CSPD says there were at least two reports of possible carjackings before 7 p.m. Friday.

Officers spotted one of the vehicles involved and a pursuit involving multiple CSPD units, including a tactical vehicle, began.

The tactical vehicle was able to force the carjacked vehicle to stop.

In the process a CSPD vehicle crashed and ended up on its side. Three officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect was also injured and taken to the hospital, but is in custody. Their condition is unknown at this time.

All southbound lanes of Academy from Pikes Peak to Academy Park Loop remain shut down as the investigation continues.
