COLORADO SPRINGS — Volunteers for Care and Share manned several locations in Colorado Springs and Pueblo Friday to collect frozen turkeys for this year's Take a Turkey to Work drive.
Organizers collected more than 1,000 turkeys to help feed area families.
Volunteers said they were surprised by the strong turnout despite Friday's weather.
"I can't believe all these people come out in this, but...It's great!" said Cindy Stevenson. She also said cash donations were strong because of the cold weather.
