COLORADO SPRINGS — The 22nd annual Stand Down for Veterans event took place Tuesday morning at First Baptist Church in downtown Colorado Springs (317 E Kiowa St, Colorado Springs, CO 80903).

The event was outdoors in the parking lot to adhere to social distancing standards.

The goal of the event is to empower our veterans and help get them off the streets. 180 veterans took part in this year's event.

James Griffith with the El Paso County Homeless Veterans Coalition explained many organizations offering employment services and housing assistance, such as the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, will be present to help meet the needs of different veterans. There will also be free food and clothing available to veterans who qualify for this assistance.

Griffith urges any vets who need help to come out to the event. "The community cares about them and is willing to provide a lot of assistance to them," Griffith said. "All they've got to do is make the effort to get out here and we will see what we can do for them."
