CAÑON CITY – The Cañon City Police Department asked people to avoid the area of 8th Street and Royal Gorge Boulevard Wednesday morning as officers checked out a report of a man with a gun.

According to police, the person who called 911 stated the man knew he was going to lose his job, so he was making threats to shoot people. There was no confirmation he had a weapon at the time.

Police said there was “no threat to the community in general” before learning the man did not have a weapon.

Less than half an hour after the alert went out, the department said the situation “has been safely resolved.” The man was fired and left the property peacefully.
