COLORADO SPRINGS – On Tuesday, April 16th, a traffic crash involving a dump truck and a bicyclist occurred at the intersection of North Union Blvd. and East Fillmore St.

According to CSPD, when officers arrived on scene, they found a bicyclist suffering from serious injuries.

The cyclist was transported to a local hospital for treatment and the CSPD Major Crash Team took over the investigation.

CSPD said their investigation determined the dump truck was traveling on North Union and attempted to turn right onto East Filmore on a green light. While making the turn, the dump truck struck a bicyclist who was attempting to cross the intersection on North Union.

CSPD said it is not believed that excessive speed or impairment were factors in the crash. At this time, no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.

According to CSPD, the bicyclist, identified as 32-year-old Jeffrey Alcorn of Colorado Springs, died from his injuries on Sunday, April 21st. CSPD said Mr. Alcorn is the 13th traffic fatality of 2019 in Colorado Springs.

At this time last year, there were also 13 traffic fatalities in the Springs, according to CSPD.
