COLORADO SPRINGS – A person was taken to the hospital just after midnight Saturday after crashing their car.

According to Colorado Springs police, the driver lost control of their car while driving too fast, veered into a guardrail and rolled the car several times before coming to a rest on its top in the center lane on southbound I-25.

Miraculously, the driver was able to walk away from the car before help arrived.

Police say the impact with the guardrail caused the car to split in half and the engine to catch on fire.

The driver was transported to Penrose Main Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The interstate was closed for a few hours while police investigated and cleaned up the crash.

CDOT responded to help officers with traffic control.

No other cars or people were involved in the crash.
