PUEBLO – An old animal group is back in Pueblo.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region had its grand reopening of the Pueblo animal shelter Wednesday.

The group has hit the ground running. They had already taken in more than 10 stray animals barely an hour into opening.

The staff said it’s good to be back.

“It feels really good to walk through those doors and be back in my element so to speak,” said Dr. Patti Canchola. “So it feels really refreshing. It feels like a fresh start. It’s good to be home.”

Right now, HSPPR in Pueblo only has limited services like shelter and animal law enforcement. It does not adopt out animals yet.

The county and city are working to figure out a long term solution.
