COLORADO SPRINGS – Colorado Springs police say an officer suffered minor injuries while trying to arrest a man who tried to run away from police late Sunday night.

Police said they arrested 18-year-old Eric Boylan for second-degree assault after a brief foot chase a little before 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said officers heard a gunshot while on patrol on Moonbeam Drive, they then spotted a silver sedan leaving the area. Police said they saw the car’s lights shut off while it drove to the 4000 block of Joyce Place. Officers said they spotted a handgun on the floor of the car.

CSPD said the officers detained Boylan along with a juvenile girl inside the car. While they were talking with Boylan, they said he managed to free one of his hands from a pair of handcuffs and tried to run away.

They caught Boylan after a brief struggle that left an officer and Boylan both with minor injuries. The girl was released back to her parents.
