Colorado impresses with several spots on Healthiest Counties list

COLORADO SPRINGS – I don’t know about you, but I feel pretty healthy most days living in Colorado, and guess what, Colorado has more healthy counties than any other state according to a new survey done by U.S. News and World Report magazine.

El Paso County’s northern neighbors, Douglas County,  took the top spot in the study. Fifteen other Colorado Counties appeared in the top 100.

  • 34 Larimer County, Colorado
  • 42. Grand County, Colorado
  • 44. Elbert County, Colorado
  • 47. Jefferson County, Colorado
  • 48. Eagle County, Colorado
  • 58. Summit County, Colorado
  • 68. La Plata County, Colorado

El Paso County ranked 367th in the country.

The list ranked communities on 10 categories on scores from zero to 100. Those categories were population health, equity, education, economy, housing, food & nutrition, environment, public safety, community vitality and infrastructure.

Overall those categories were weighted andtook other factors into account.

Virginia has five counties at the top of the list, Minnesota has two, and 11 other states have one county each. The magazine took in to account such things as population health, public safety, as well as food and nutrition.
