Police identify woman killed in crash at Platte and Academy

COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs Police Department released the identity of the woman killed in a crash early Friday morning during a crash at Academy and Platte.

Police say 27-year-old Alyssa Mason was riding in a sedan traveling north on N. Academy Boulevard when the car hit a privately owned utility truck turning left from Academy onto eastbound Platte. It happened at approximately 12:17 a.m. Friday.

Mason was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but she shortly afterward. The driver of the car also suffered serious injuries.

Police said Mason lived in the Denver Metro area. Her death marks the ninth traffic death in Colorado Springs in 2019.

The crash shut down Academy Boulevard for hours Friday morning. It remains under investigation and there have been no arrests at this time. If you witnessed the crash, you’re encouraged to call Colorado Springs police at 719-444-7000.
