COLORADO SPRINGS – CSPD’s major crash unit is investigating a fatal crash that has all lanes of Academy Boulevard shut down Friday morning.
We’re told one person is dead following the crash and one other person suffered serious injuries. Police have since reopened the bridge over Platte Avenue following crash cleanup.
Police said it happened around 12:17 a.m. when a sedan hit a privately-owned utility truck pulling a trailer while the truck was turning from southbound Academy onto eastbound Platte.
Both people in the sedan were taken to the hospital for serious injuries. That’s where one of the passengers died just before 4 a.m.
The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Police said no arrests have been made and the crash remains under investigation. Police say this is the ninth traffic death of 2019, which matches the total at this point in 2018.
