COLORADO SPRINGS – In 2019, the avalanche-related death toll stands at eight people according to Colorado’s Avalanche Information Center.

This year has been a tragic, record year for avalanches in the state.

So, one of Colorado’s oldest outdoor apparel stores, Mountain Chalet, is hosting a free avalanche awareness class Wednesday night.

Linda Lawson with the Colorado Avalanche Information Center will be presenting the latest information and updates about the abundant avalanche activity this season, what to expect, and tips to stay safe.

The class is designed to help outdoor enthusiasts be as safe as possible when traveling to the backcountry to enjoy everything Colorado has to offer.

If you are interested in learning more about avalanche safety, head to the Mountain Chalet on Tejon Street in Colorado Springs this evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
