COLORADO SPRINGS – The man struck and killed last night on Colorado Ave was 21-year-old Mitchal Holloway. Colorado Springs Police say the driver who hit him, 21-year-old Destany Cardenas, was high on an unidentified drug at the time of the crash.
Cardenas is facing a charge of vehicular homicide. Officers arrested her as she returned to the scene of the crash on Colorado Avenue at Cimino Drive.
The investigation started when a Colorado Springs police sergeant noticed a man lying in the westbound lanes of Colorado Avenue around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday.
While police were tending to the victim, they noticed a Hyundai sedan with two women inside return to the scene. That’s when they determined that the car might have been involved in the crash earlier, and arrested the woman driving the vehicle.
Colorado Avenue was closed for hours following the crash, but it reopened around 2 a.m.
