Grass fire burning in Baca County near Oklahoma border

BACA COUNTY – According to the Baca County Sheriff’s Office, there is a large fire burning in the county that is now 90 percent contained according to fire management.

The Sheriff’s Office said they began receiving calls around 1:30 p.m. about a grass fire located at Highway 287 at the Oklahoma border.

Baca County Fire and EMS were dispatched to the location. Cimarron County, Oklahoma and Morton County, Kansas are assisting with aid.

Crews are actively fighting the fire which the Sheriff’s Office estimated at 3,800 acres in size at 4 p.m.

No structures have been damaged or are in imminent danger at this time.

No injuries have been reported, but emergency crews are asking people to avoid the area.
