COLORADO SPRINGS – There’s something special happening at the Good Earth Garden Center in Colorado Springs.

The garden has a Corpse Flower and it’s blooming right now.

The rare tropical plant only blooms every few years or so, sometimes one, sometimes ten!

It depends on flies to pollinate and attracts them by emitting an order that quite literally smells like something died, hence the name.

The center has had this one for three years and they can grow to 15 feet tall and 8 feet wide.

It only blooms for a day or two, your best bet to smell it is Friday Feb. 8.

“So they are kind of a flash in the pan. They are truly exotic and beautiful and they do truly smell quite awful when it’s doing what it does,” Robin Boutilier said.

The Good Earth Garden Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s free to get in and look around.

Denver Botanical Gardens has a much older corpse flower, named Stinky, that bloomed late last year.
