COLORADO SPRINGS – A fatal crash shut down both northbound and southbound I-25 Sunday afternoon, causing significant delays for some drivers.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near the S. Nevada exit on I-25 when a Ford SUV traveling south hit a Jeep and a concrete barrier.

Shortly after the fatal crash in the southbound lanes, another crash in the same area shut down all northbound lanes for about 20 minutes.

The male driver of the Ford SUV was ejected and died at the scene. The passenger in the Ford is listed as stable at a Colorado Springs hospital. The two people in the Jeep were not hurt.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the driver who died at the scene.

All lanes of I-25 reopened at approximately 8:24 p.m.

According to CSPD, this is the fifth fatal accident so far this year in Colorado Springs.
