COLORADO SPRINGS – We’re watching out for you during these winter storms with tips about a common winter weather danger that’s not to commonly thought about.
Slips and falls are very common when we get winter weather in Southern Colorado.
Dr. Lucas Hennings with UC Health Memorial says folks should think about what shoes they have on when they have to traverse slippery surfaces like sidewalks and driveways. Even the running boards on your car can be slick.
Dr. Lucas also said it’s important to know when your injury is just a painful bump or bruise and when you need to seek medical attention.
“If you are over 65 and hit your head, if you are on any type of blood thinner, or if you lose consciousness, or something just doesn’t feel right, then you want to be evaluated in the emergency department,” Lucas said.
The doctor also advises folks to be aware of their surroundings in the snow and ice and think about what may be lurking beneath a layer of snow.
