CANON CITY – Cañon City police recognize that suicide of all ages, particularly young people, has become a crisis across Southern Colorado. Thursday night, Canon City PD held a candlelight vigil and welcomed the community to come together to remember those who have chosen to take their own lives. There were candles, prayers and speakers, including Police Chief Daric Harvey.

We also heard from those families who have had to deal with this devastating situation that changes so many lives. One mother, Jessica Cobler, telling News5 that it meant so much to come together as a community as she remembered her son who died. Dalton Cobler was just 18 years old, 2014 class valedictorian at Florence High School when he took his life.

News5 has made it part of our mission to inform and educate about the resources available if you or someone you know are struggling with suicidal thoughts, are overly depressed, withdrawn from society, not reaching out to friends or family.
