One dead after head on crash in Las Animas County

LAS ANIMAS COUNTY – Colorado State Patrol investigated a head-on crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon in Las Animas County.

The crash occurred on Las Animas County Rd. 30.1, 10 miles north of the town of Segundo.

According to State Patrol, a FedEx truck was approaching a curve and skidded into an oncoming pickup truck.

The passenger in the pickup, 74-year-old Lupe Aragon from Weston, was killed in the crash. Her husband, who was driving, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the FedEx truck,  Robert Lenk from Pueblo, was seriously injured and transported to Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad. His passenger, Jason Gran from Pueblo West, was transported to the same hospital with minor injuries.

According to State Patrol, alcohol and drug use are not suspected at this time, but speeding is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash.
