COLORADO SPRINGS – Care and Share handed out food to 584 families in Colorado Springs and the harsh winter temperatures didn’t affect turnout.

The food distribution started shortly before 3:00 p.m. and went on a little later than 6:00 p.m. to accommodate all the cars that lined up.

About 40 volunteers helped hand out 40,000 pounds of food.

Folks who showed up at the drive-thru style food distribution were grateful for the help, either because they lost benefits due to the government shutdown or they’re just struggling in general.

“It means a lot to me, ’cause it means my kids and my grandkids get fed,” said one woman who said she lost her food stamps after the shutdown.

“We wouldn’t be eating tonight without them,” added another driver.
“We so appreciate it.”

There are also a couple of food distributions coming up in Colorado Springs.
Below are the details:
– Friday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m. Location has not been determined.
– Saturday, February 16 at Centennial Elementary. It starts at 9:00 a.m.
