COLORADO SPRINGS – If you have a short term rental in Colorado Springs you’ll need to get a permit. This applies to all homes, guest houses and rooms rented for less than 30 consecutive days.

The idea is to collect the appropriate state and city sales tax on property owners who list their places for rent on sites like Airbnb.

Permits cost $119 for the year. The ordinance covering the new permit was approved in October and went into effect on January 1st.

Airbnb hosts who spoke with News5 during the discussions about the ordinance expressed concerns it would impact pricing for their customers and their ability to continue operating.

One homeowner said he was not opposed to the ordinance, rather he wanted his private property rights to be maintained and the city to avoid an “overreach.”
