COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado Springs general municipal election is coming up on April 2nd.

Wednesday was the first day for candidates to apply to run for Mayor and at-large council seats.

Hopeful candidates for the positions gathered at the City Administration Building to get some coaching on requirements and deadlines. City Clerk Sarah Johnson was on hand to answer any questions and distribute nomination petitions.

“It’s always exciting to see candidates show up and no one left midstream and said they weren’t running, so lets be excited and hopefully we’ll have a good group of candidates for both races for the April election,” Johnson said.

This is the first election that a seated strong Mayor is running for re-election, and the three at-large seats are citywide.

Applications will be accepted until January 22nd..
