COLORADO – The Colorado Oil and Gas Commission is giving the green light to new setback rules for industry sites near schools and child care facilities.

The approval was given on Tuesday. The new rules will require oil and gas sites to be one-thousand feet from school property, which includes outdoor areas such as athletic fields and playgrounds. Previously, they had to be one-thousand feet from school buildings and 350 feet from outdoor facilities.

The newly approved rules will go into effect early next year.
