PUEBLO – Funeral services for Matthew Moreno, the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Deputy killed in a crash last week, will be held Thursday, Dec. 20th in Pueblo.

Monday, Moreno was taken in a procession from Trinidad to Pueblo.

Last Wednesday, Moreno was involved in a wreck on Highway 12, west of Trinidad. A mother and her young son were also killed in the crash.

According to the Colorado Fallen Hero Foundation, Sgt. Moreno’s family and friends will participate in a funeral mass at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, located at 414 W. 11th St. This service will begin at 10 a.m.

Once that service is complete, Sgt. Moreno and his family will be escorted from Cathedral of the Sacred Heart to Pueblo Memorial Hall, located at 1 City Hall Place. Here, a law enforcement memorial will take place, beginning approximately at noon.

Due to the procession, traffic crossing N. Grand Avenue and S. Grand Avenue between W.
13th Street and N. Union Avenue will be impacted, but traffic officers will work to make
these limited rolling closures to reduce delays.

The Fallen Hero Foundation said Sgt. Moreno’s family members are part of the Pueblo community, and they welcome neighbors and the public to attend either service. Public parking for the memorial service will be available in the Maint St. Parking Garage, located at 118 S. Main St.

KOAA will cover the service and procession live online and on the KOAA News 5 App.
