Fire destroys home in Rocky Ford, arson a possibility

ROCKY FORD – Fire crews in Rocky Ford spent two hours Tuesday morning battling flames from a large house fire in the 600 block of S. 10th Street.

Three people were inside the home and were able to escape the flames. Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and according to the Rocky Ford Fire Chief, the neighbors heard an oxygen tank that exploded in the fire.

Firefighters were called to the home at about 5:30 a.m. and it took until 7:30 for the fire to be completely extinguished. The cause of the blaze is unknown at this time, but it is under investigation and authorities suspect possible arson. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is also involved in the investigation.

The home is extensively damaged and may just be a total loss.
