DENVER – The Denver Fire Department is mopping the last of a very large two-alarm fire at an auto-recycling business at 4920 Washington Street. The fire broke out around noon and a large plume of black smoke could be seen around the Metro area.
The business is located just east and north of the I-25/I-70 interchange and the smoke affected traffic on the two highways. The fire appears to have started in a large pile of scrap vehicles in the center of the recycling center. 75-firefighters battled the blaze and now fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
The flames were contained in the lot and the fire did not spread to any of the other buildings nearby.
No injuries are being reported at this time.
Final update for Second Alarm fire at 4920 Washington: Approximately 75 firefighters responded to an exterior waste/recycling fire. Fire was quickly extinguished. No fire extended into nearby buildings & all were evacuated with no reports of injury. Cause is under investigation.
