SUMMIT COUNTY – Colorado State Patrol is urging drivers to stay off the roads in the high county Saturday afternoon.

Brutal weather conditions are happening in both Summit and Eagle counties. Travel is extremely slow on I-70.

Westbound I-70 was closed for safety at Empire/Berthoud Pass Jct.

Around 1 p.m., a 20 car pile-up occurred on eastbound I-70, east of Frisco. The pile-up was cleared but I-70 eastbound remains closed at Frisco and Silverthorne due to multiple other crashes and spinouts on the Eisenhower Tunnel grade.

State Patrol has opened Emergency Shelters for stranded motorists at both the Summit Middle School and Silverthorne Recreation Center.

Just before 5:30 p.m., State Patrol said the estimated reopen time fore eastbound I-70 is 30-45 minutes for Summit County and 60 minutes for Eagle County.
