COLORADO SPRINGS – More controlled burns are happening south and west of Colorado Springs Friday.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department tweeted that controlled burns are happening southwest of Cascade and on the south end of Fort Carson on Friday. Do not call 911 to report smoke in those areas.

Dispatchers were flooded with calls Tuesday when people spotted smoke from the burns on the north side of Pikes Peak.

Colorado Springs Utilities will conduct burn operations in the area through next March in collaboration with other agencies.

Fort Carson has also been performing fire mitigation on post following last spring’s active wildfire season.
