COLORADO SPRINGS – In Colorado Springs, dozens of volunteers woke up in the cold Friday morning to help raise money for homeless youth.

On any given night in America, around 1.3 million homeless youth live out on the streets and here in Colorado Springs over 350 children and young adults are homeless each night.

Students and volunteers hoped to bring awareness to the issue by spending the night outdoors. It’s all part of Urban Peak’s Night Out.

About 75 people camped out at the First United Methodist Church downtown.  Campers are not allowed to have tents. They’re only allowed sleeping bags, cardboard boxes and tarps.

Urban Peak estimates that of the homeless in our area, 1 in 10 is homeless or a runaway youth. Last year,  Urban Peak was able to provide a safe place to sleep for 168 youths. Unfortunately, they had to turn away 43 due to lack of space.

They’re hoping this fundraiser will raise enough money to change that. To help them reach their goal visit their website.
