Driver succumbs to injuries sustained in Oct. traffic crash

COLORADO SPRINGS – A Colorado Springs man is dead after suffering injuries in a car accident in October.

The crash was October 27 at the intersection of South Chelton and Airport roads. Police said the driver of a Ford Escort ran the red light on Chelton and was hit broadside by another vehicle.

The driver of the Ford, 32-year-old Mark A. Melvin was taken to the hospital and reportedly died from his injuries on Thursday.

Police said Melvin was suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

There were three people in the other vehicle, only one of them reported minor injuries. Police said they are not planning to file charges against the driver of the other vehicle.

This death marks the 47th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs in 2018. At this time in 2017, there were 32 deaths related to traffic crashes.
