COLORADO SPRINGS – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of the woman who died while hiking near the summit of Pikes Peak.

Deputies said 31-year-old Rebecca Maxfield was found dead near the golden stairs portion of the Barr Trail. Authorities have not yet released the cause of death and haven’t provided any new information about what happened before she died.

The woman’s death was first reported around 1 p.m. Sunday and deputies recovered Maxfield’s body Monday morning.

The sheriff’s office said on Sunday that she likely died from an apparent fall and criminal intent was not suspected in her death.
