COLORADO SPRINGS – A man was taken into custody after he was reportedly screaming obscenities and appeared to be stabbing a soda can with a screwdriver or a knife early Wednesday.

Colorado Springs Police officers received a call for a suspicious person in the 700 block of E Costilla around 12:40 a.m. The caller told officers a man was in their front yard screaming obscenities and looked like he was stabbing a soda can with a screwdriver or knife, according to CSPD.

One of the people in the home went outside and told the man to leave the property but he began yelling and threatening the resident. Upon arrival, officers gave the man verbal commands to get down on the ground but he would not comply.

He then threatened officers on scene and was found in possession of “lethal tools.” The man, identified as 22-year-old Stephen Arellano, was taken into custody and transported to the El Paso County Jail.
