Jury convicts second defendant in the killing of auto shop owner

COLORADO SPRINGS – A jury has found Derrick Davis guilty for the murder of George Maldonado, the owner of Full Throttle Auto Service, who was beaten to death during a robbery in July 2017.

Davis was convicted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.  He was found not guilty on charges of first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit murder.

The judge sentenced him to life in prison without parole, plus 16 years.

Davis and accomplice Eric Grant were dressed as utility workers, wearing reflective vests and hard hats, when they robbed the shop. Colorado Springs Police released video of the men inside the shop that day.

Davis was arrested in Minnesota following an intense manhunt. Grant was arrested in Philadelphia.

Grant was found guilty of first-degree murder, murder, assault, aggravated robbery, and conspiracy to commit robbery in June. He’s serving a life sentence without parole.
