COLORADO SPRINGS – There’s a little bit of good news as drivers head to the pump to fill up their gas tank. Gas prices are starting to drop across the country.

Prices nationwide have dropped about a half a cent per gallon in the past two weeks. The average price nationwide is about $2.90 a gallon.

In Colorado, the average price is $2.89. That’s still 28-cents a gallon higher than this time last year. The drop in prices is tied to a switch of “winter grade” fuel, which is cheaper for the refineries to produce.
