COLORADO SPRINGS – Motorcycle officers are working to slow drivers down today along Academy Blvd.

In light of yet another rough traffic fatality on Academy Blvd. over the weekend, the Colorado Springs police are working to slow motorists down along the roadway.

A little before 9:00 p.m. on Saturday night, a vehicle rolled down an embankment and hit a light pole just south of Constitution. One person dies and another was injured in the crash.

Academy Blvd. was closed for hours and didn’t reopen until early Sunday morning. Colorado Springs Police Lt. Howard Black said that speed was a factor in the crash.

While police were working to investigate the death on that crash, another car was involved in a rollover accident at Maizeland.

The death over the weekend marked the 36th death in Colorado Springs this year. We are on track to well surpass last year’s number.

A controversial decision was made by the city on July 31st, to add four red light cameras around town. Exactly when that program will start is unknown at this time, but here are the four intersections regardless.

  1.  Academy Blvd. and N. Carefree Cr.

2. E. Platte Avenue and Chelton Rd.

3. Briargate Blvd.  and Lexington Blvd.

4. Dublin Blvd. and Academy Blvd.
