DENVER – The Colorado Attorney General’s office wants Coloradans to be aware of a phone scam targeting seniors.
The callers pose as officials with the Social Security Administration who say fraud has been detected with the individual’s social security account. The callers will sometimes leave messages and urge victims to call back immediately. They also threaten the people that their social security check may not come next month.
The Colorado Attorney General’s office said calls like these are attempts to steal your information. Hang up the phone immediately and delete any voicemails. DO NOT return these calls.
AARP’s Elderwatch program also reported a “major uptick” in reports about this particular scam.
