COLORADO SPRINGS – According to AAA, around 15 % of kids walk or bike to class. That means thousands of students will be out at crosswalks this morning. Research shows an alarming trend – more than 1/3 of drivers roll through stop signs in school zones or neighborhoods.

It’s extremely important to be alert in school zones! Be sure to watch out for any school buses that may be loading or unloading. If they are you have to stop!

And slow down in school zones if you do speed fines and points are doubled!

“You are really looking at some serious repercussions if you disobey the laws in the school zone,” says Maile Gray with Drive Smart. “School zones are taken very seriously.”

If your kids are walking to school, make sure to walk with them several times so they’re comfortable and if possible have kids walk together in a group.

Make sure to remind kids to always use crosswalks and be mindful of all traffic conditions.
