Are you sending your kids out the door with everything they need to succeed? A healthy lunch is extremely important to keep our students on track!

News 5 spoke with UCHealth Dietitian David Egerdahl about the most time and cost effective ways to pack a healthy lunch.

Start by packing a meat or something high in protein like yogurt or cheese. You want to include something high grain as well. A peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a great option for younger kids!

Stay away from pre-packaged meals and snacks high in sodium.

“You don’t want to include that high sugar food like sodas, energy drinks, and sports drinks because they’re going to have that crash mid-day,” said Egerdahl.

Finally, always include a fruit and vegetable to balance out your meal!
