Colorado State Patrol identifies motorcyclist killed in crash on Highway 115

FREMONT COUNTY – Colorado State Patrol identified the man killed in a crash that shut down Highway 115 Friday afternoon.

Troopers said a 53-year-old John Podhirny from Pueblo West was killed when he didn’t navigate a curve and his bike overturned into oncoming traffic. Jennifer Podhirny, a passenger on the motorcycle suffered serious injuries.

CSP said Podhirny was driving his 2001 Harley Davidson northbound on Highway 115 about six miles north of Penrose when the crash happened.

Troopers said the bike rolled once, ejecting both the driver and passenger before colliding with a 2012 GMC Envoy traveling south.

Troopers said John Podhirny was not wearing a helmet.

The crash closed the highway around 4:30 p.m. before some lanes were opened about an hour later. All lanes were reopened a little after 6:30 p.m.
