Royce Nichols Jr. was arrested on Aug. 14, 2018. He’s suspected of stabbing his roommate in Canon City.

FREMONT COUNTY – Deputies arrested a man suspected of stabbing his roommate in the head Tuesday in Cañon City.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested 28-year-old Royce Nichols Jr. on suspicion of second degree assault and felony menacing.

Deputies responded to the 1600 block of Birch Street in Cañon City where they found 28-year-old Nicholas Gunderson with minor injuries.

Gunderson told deputies Nichols Jr. stabbed him in the head during an altercation at their home in the 1300 block of Cedar and he drove to a home on Birch Street to call authorities.

Deputies said they found Nichols Jr. near the roundabout on 9th and Elm. Deputies said he was taken into custody without further incident.

Gunderson was also arrested on a failure to comply warrant and felony drug charges out of El Paso County.
