DMV on Van Buren in El Paso CountyCOLORADO – Division of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices are open again Monday after a nearly week-long closure for a badly needed technology overhaul.

The upgrade means that many services that required a trip to the DMV office before, can now be completed online. It should make life so much easier. There’s no need to spend time at one of the offices and it eliminates the need to sit on hold on the phone.

New online services, available at https://mydmv.colorado.gov include:

  • Registration Fee Estimator – Estimate registration fees on a vehicle. Commonly used for individuals who are considering purchasing a new vehicle who are wondering about the registration cost.
  • First-time Registration – This service allows an individual to register a vehicle in Colorado for the first time without visiting a motor vehicle office
  • Request a Personalized Plate – Check availability of a personalized plate instantly and reserve and pay for a plate. This replaces a manual process where people request their top three choices, send in a form, wait for the state to tell them if they’re available, if they find one that’s available, send in payment, wait for production, etc. This service completes the process in one step.

Speaking of license plates, you can now order the brand new “Pueblo Chile” specialty plates starting today. The plate costs $50.00 and if you want them to be personalized, it’s an additional $10.00.

Free salsa will be available for people who order the “Pueblo Chile” plates at the Pueblo County Courthouse starting at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.
