PARK COUNTY — An 11-year-old girl is dead after the sled she was on hit the back of a pickup truck that was towing her.

On Nov. 27, a 2018 Ford F-250 pickup, driven by Roberto Jaramillo Herrera, was traveling eastbound on Park County Road 60. Colorado State Patrol said the truck was towing four children on sleds on a snow-packed, icy roadway. The four sleds were attached to the rear of the truck.

Authorities say one of the children came off a sled, the driver stopped the car, but the 11-year-old girl on a separate sled was unable to stop. CSP said she slid into the rear of the truck, hit the undercarriage, and slid underneath the truck. She later died as a result of her injuries. No one else was injured.

At this time, alcohol and drug use are not suspected to be contributing factors in the crash which remains under investigation.
