COLORADO SPRINGS – There’s an effort underway right now to honor a former Colorado Springs mayor.
Businessman Leon Young was the Springs’ first black mayor, and now neighbors in the Hillside Neighborhood want to honor his life and legacy. They’re looking to redo the current pavilion in South Shooks Run Park.
“I think having something in the neighborhood that really reflects his commitment to education, youth achievement, would really resonate well with residents.” said Tilah Larson with Colorado Springs Parks and Recreation.
Before any plans are made, the neighborhood wants your ideas. A meeting is being held Feb. 12 at the Hillside Community Center of Fountain, 925 S Institute St.. It starts at 5:30 p.m.
