COLORADO SPRINGS – UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who stepped up this year. KOAA is proud to report organizers of the event have matched ALL of their soldiers with local families.

The Citizen Soldier Connection organization is once again working to connect local military members with local host families for the Thanksgiving holiday. This year there are 90 soldiers who are ready to participate in the program and more host families are needed.

For the past few years the “Home away from home” program has helped local military members connect with area families so they don’t have to spend the holiday alone.

“I think as long as you have open arms and a seat at your table you are the perfect host for these soldiers,” said Executive Producer for Citizen Soldier Connection Elizabeth Quevedo.  “This is what I say to the soldiers every Tuesday. I know it is a little bit awkward. I know it’s going to be a little bit awkward for the host as well. The most awkward time is going to be the first two minutes of that conversation and then it’s going to be wonderful.”
