COLORADO – This Saturday is National Public Lands Day when everyone can get into National Parks and public lands free of charge for one-day only.
The day is intended to encourage people to come out to our beloved lands to volunteer at parks in efforts of repair, maintenance, cleanup projects, and restoration.
Of course, no one is going to stop you from visiting simply to relax, enjoy Colorful Colorado, or spot some wildlife. Just be sure you pack out any trash you bring in to keep the land looking great.
A word of warning – be patient no matter which public land you choose to visit. You won’t be alone on the road or in the parks for this popular event. Be courteous and have a great time.
Colorado has 4 national parks:
- Mesa Verde National Park
- Rocky Mountain National Park
- Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve
- Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Local volunteer events:
NPLD Stewardship & Recreation Celebration in Garden of the Gods
City of Colorado Springs – Restore and close illegal trail at Red Rock Canyon Open Space
Cañon City – Seep Springs OHV Trail Cleanup

Thinking of coming to #RMNP this weekend? Expect a VERY BUSY national park! Fall colors + elk rut + fee-free entrance on Sat 9/22 (only) = congestion at entrances, in parking lots, on trails, around meadows where elk congregate, just about everywhere!
