COLORADO SPRINGS – This weekend people living in the Beckers neighborhood of Manitou Springs and the Cedar Heights area of Colorado Springs will take part in an evacuation drill as part of National Preparedness Month.

Volunteers for the event met in late August to learn more about the drill which takes place on Saturday from 9:45 a.m. until noon.

Those who chose to take part will evacuate their homes to a pre-determined location. Families will be given lunch and will be entered into a drawing to receive an evacuation kit.

There will also be a briefing from emergency responders and displays will be set up from several organizations including American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, Wildfire Mitigation and the Office of Emergency Management.

Only people who have volunteered to take part in the drill need to follow the instructions given out during the simulation. Everyone else can continue to enjoy their Saturday as normal.

Just be aware that you’ll see additional police and fire vehicles in the Manitou Springs neighborhood and the area around Garden of the Gods as they take part in the event.

If you have any questions, call the organizers at 719-494-6701.
