JACKSON COUNTY, IN – An inmate at an Indiana jail faces additional charges after trying to escape the facility.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department says when officers took 28-year-old Blaze Ayers to the booking area, he ran into a medical room and locked the door behind him. By the time jail officers went through an adjacent room, Ayers had climbed into the ceiling.

Ayers refused to obey orders from jail officers to come down, and instead continued to crawl through the ceiling trying to escape.

Ayers eventually fell through the ceiling and onto the floor of the booking area. Officers say he still refused to obey and they had to subdue him with a Taser. He was treated for minor injuries resulting from the escape attempt.

There’s no estimate so far on the damage his escape attempt caused.

Ayers is charged with Attempted Escape and Criminal Mischief. He was arrested on a Failure to Appear warrant for a Battery charge.
