FARMVILLE, Va. – A Virginia state trooper and a resident of a home were killed in a shootout as police served a drug investigation search warrant.
Virginia State Police said in a statement Tuesday that as a tactical team entered a Farmville home Monday night when someone inside the home opened fire. Two police officers returned fire, killing 44-year-old Corey Johnson.
Johnson was the only person inside the house.
Police say Trooper Lucas Dowell was shot and died at the hospital. No other troopers were injured.
Dowell joined the Virginia State Police in 2014.
