PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – As freezing temperatures chilled most of the country, a warm rekindling happened at the Portsmouth, Virginia Humane Society Thursday afternoon.

Earlier this week, animal control officers were called out to a home where a Yorkie was found wandering the streets.

Officer C. McLeod says they got the dog and scanned for a microchip, which it had. She was surprised by the conversation she had with the owner, who’s number it was registered under.

“He said no, it’s been missing for 10 years,” she recalls.

That man, Clevon Roberts and his daughter Kiana, came to be reunited with the Yorkie, Angel, Thursday.

Roberts says his kids usually let Angel out but she would always come back in.

One day she didn’t, so they alerted animal control, put up flyers, and searched the neighborhood.

“I didn’t think we would see her again. It’s almost like a miracle,” he says.
